Many burnt beyond recognition in a fatal accident in Enugu State

Regrettably, a tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, April 30, at Ekwegbe along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road in Enugu State, resulting in the loss of six precious lives.
The victims, comprising fourteen males and two females, met their untimely demise in a fatal motor accident.
The individuals involved in this unfortunate event were burned beyond recognition.

The accident transpired when an 18-seater white Toyota Hummer bus, bearing a Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA and the inscription “Masha Allah,” veered off course due to excessive speed.

Subsequently, the bus careened into the perimeter fence of Maduka University situated along the highway.
Following a preliminary inquiry conducted by law enforcement authorities, it was determined that the vehicle erupted in flames, resulting in the tragic demise of the sixteen passengers.
The investigation conducted into the matter has also revealed that the vehicle in question, which was laden with edible vegetables, various food items, and the personal belongings of the passengers, was en route from the Enugu State axis of the road towards Nsukka.
However, the precise point of departure and ultimate destination of the vehicle remains unknown at this time.
Nevertheless, it is imperative to note that all aforementioned items have since been successfully retrieved by the Igbo-Etiti Police Division.
Their remains were transported to a medical facility where they were officially pronounced deceased.
However, two passengers were successfully rescued from the wreckage and promptly conveyed to a healthcare facility for urgent medical attention.

In light of this distressing occurrence, it is imperative for all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations diligently to prevent such calamities from recurring.

In confirmation of the aforementioned incident, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has officially stated that the Commissioner of Police Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, accompanied by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, has promptly visited the site of the occurrence to conduct a thorough assessment of the prevailing circumstances.
CP Uzuegbu, in his assessment, has characterized the accident and the resultant devastation as a profoundly sorrowful event, expressing heartfelt condolences to the as yet unidentified family members, friends, and acquaintances of the deceased individuals.

It is strongly advised that all relevant parties involved in or affected by this unfortunate incident cooperate fully with the ongoing investigative efforts being undertaken by the authorities.
Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to exercise caution and vigilance while traversing the highways to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
