Regrettably, it has been confirmed that one individual has tragically lost their life as a result of a multiple-vehicle collision that occurred at 3:00 a.m. in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

This unfortunate incident also led to significant damage to three vehicles involved. The incident was reportedly instigated by a hit-and-run driver.

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), the agency responsible for overseeing traffic matters within the state, formally disclosed this distressing occurrence via their official Facebook platform on the morning of Saturday, March 30, 2024.

As per the detailed report provided by the agency, the calamity unfolded when a motorist, purportedly operating their vehicle at an excessive speed and displaying reckless driving behavior, collided with one of the vehicles along the Gate-Oje dual carriageway.

This initial impact subsequently caused the affected vehicle to collide with two others, resulting in a chain reaction of destruction.

The driver responsible for instigating this unfortunate sequence of events reportedly absconded from the scene of the accident, fleeing with their vehicle.

It has been ascertained that three vehicles sustained significant damage in the recent incident.

The vehicles involved were identified as a Toyota Corolla, a Nissan Micra, and a Hiace commercial bus.

Regrettably, as reported by officials from the OYRTMA present at the accident site, one individual, believed to be a driver of the vehicles involved, lost their life due to the collision.

The deceased’s remains have been successfully removed from the scene.

Furthermore, the vehicles implicated in the accident have been relocated from the site and transported to the nearby police station, as confirmed by the agency.

The frequency of late-night accidents in Ibadan has raised concerns among various stakeholders in the state.

It is noted that scarcely a week passes without the city witnessing an accident, often attributed to reckless driving, particularly by the younger demographic.
