Onitsha mourns: as trailer brakes fails

An unfortunate accident happened on Saturday at the Onitsha head bridge, resulting in a significant number of casualties.
As per reports from eyewitnesses present at the scene, a truck en route to the Asaba end of the bridge experienced a malfunction in its braking system, leading to a catastrophic chain of events.

The truck reportedly lost control, veering off its intended path onto the pedestrian walkway, where it collided with bystanders and individuals awaiting transportation to Asaba.
Tragically, the victims included a mother and her children, along with several other pedestrians who were in the vicinity.
The distressing occurrence unfolded around 5pm, casting a somber shadow over the area.

One fortunate woman narrowly escaped the calamity, though she was deeply affected by the heartbreaking aftermath, which included the sight of her beloved family members amidst the chaos.
While the precise count of fatalities remains unverified, numerous individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees, ranging from minor to severe.

Promptly responding to the scene, law enforcement officers are diligently engaged in efforts to reinstate order and provide support for emergency operations.
