Multi-Vehicle Crash Along Abuja-Nyanya Route Leaves Dozens Injured

A major multi-vehicle collision along the Nyanya Expressway in Abuja has left dozens of commuters injured and triggered renewed concern over one of Nigeria’s most dangerous urban road corridors.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred at about 4:48 PM along the Kugbo Furniture Market axis, a heavily congested section of the Abuja entry route.
The accident involved, six vehicles, including two heavy-duty tippers, a commercial passenger bus and multiple private cars.
A total of 39 people were involved in the crash, making it one of the most significant multi-vehicle incidents recorded in Abuja in recent weeks.
Initial reports indicate that, over 30 passengers sustained injuries, ranging from minor bruises to fractures.
At least two victims suffered more serious trauma, requiring urgent medical attention.
Victims were treated at the scene by emergency responders, and evacuated to nearby hospitals, including the National Hospital Abuja.
No immediate fatalities were confirmed in the official FRSC report at the time of filing.
FRSC rescue teams demonstrated rapid intervention, responders arrived within minutes (about 4 minutes) of receiving the distress call.
Officers rescued trapped victims, including one pinned inside a heavily damaged tipper.
First aid was administered on-site before evacuation.
Heavy-duty recovery equipment was deployed to clear wreckage and reopen the road.
Authorities also implemented traffic control measures to prevent a complete gridlock along the busy corridor.
