Soldier got crushed by a trailer driver

A tragic accident unfolded on Tuesday at Orile bus stop, Iganmu, located in Lagos, resulting in the untimely demise of a soldier.
The unfortunate event transpired when a truck affiliated with a logistics company fatally struck the soldier.
Reports indicate that the driver of the truck was purportedly attempting to evade extortionists who were allegedly soliciting funds from commercial bus operators in the vicinity of the Orile segment along the Badagry expressway.
In a reckless display, the driver callously abandoned the scene following the collision.
However, the swift and resolute response of fellow soldiers who bore witness to the calamity led to a pursuit of the fleeing truck. Their determined efforts culminated in the successful interception of the truck at the Mile 2 bus stop, although the conductor managed to evade capture.
Shola James, a reputable trader at Orile, vividly recounted the harrowing scene, emphasizing the grievous nature of the soldier’s injuries, particularly noting the crushing impact of the truck’s rear tire on the soldier’s head, a sight too distressing to behold.
Furthermore, a corroborating witness, a seasoned vulcanizer, affirmed that the soldier met his tragic end while riding his motorcycle, as the truck collided with him, resulting in instantaneous fatality. The detailed accounts provided by eyewitnesses serve to underscore the gravity of the situation and the profound loss experienced.
Shola James, a trader at Orile, recounted,
“The truck’s back tyre crushed the soldier’s head. I couldn’t bear to look at the body again.”
In light of this distressing occurrence, it is imperative for all road users to exercise utmost caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents from recurring. Let this unfortunate event serve as a poignant reminder of the critical importance of road safety and responsible driving practices.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed,
“After the incident, the DPO of Orile Police Station and his men visited the scene and saw the soldier’s body. The soldiers returned with the truck and driver but took them and the soldier’s body back to their barracks.”
