VIO clampdown on vehicles without roadworthy

The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) carried out a comprehensive enforcement operation targeting more than 50 worn-out commercial vehicles in various key locations in the state on Wednesday.

The operation focused on key components such as brakes, wipers, lights, shocks, and tires to ensure compliance with the State’s Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
Enforcement efforts were concentrated in areas like Costain, Ikorodu Road, Ojuelegba, Yaba, Oyingbo, Ikeja, and Ojodu Berger, where Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) led the operation.
Despite facing resistance from some commercial vehicle drivers, the VIOs remained committed to fair enforcement practices.

However, there were incidents where VIS patrol vans were damaged during confrontations.
Akin-George Fashola, the VIO Boss, highlighted the agency’s dedication to conducting impartial enforcement drives and urged all vehicle owners and operators to prioritize regular maintenance and compliance with roadworthiness standards for the safety of all road users.
This crackdown emphasizes the necessity of strict enforcement measures to ensure public safety on Lagos roads.
As the VIS continues its efforts to uphold roadworthiness standards, motorists are reminded of their duty to maintain their vehicles in order to prevent accidents and adhere to traffic regulations.
