FRSC to seize truck carrying both animal and human

The Bauchi command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced its intention to prosecute owners of vehicles found conveying animals alongside humans, following the impoundment of such trucks.
This decision was communicated by Patrick Ikaba, the FRSC sector commander in the state, during a statement made on Thursday.
Ikaba emphasized that the directive to seize vehicles carrying both animals and passengers simultaneously was issued by the FRSC headquarters.
The rationale behind this measure is to prevent potential hazards in the unfortunate event of an accident, where animals could pose a serious risk to passengers by falling on them, thereby exacerbating the fatality rate.
It is now deemed necessary that and humans be transported separately to ensure the safety of all road users.
In light of this, the sector commander is urging the public to refrain from this practice.
Furthermore, the FRSC is in the process of establishing mobile courts to address and penalize offenders of this regulation.
“It is either you are carrying animals or you are carrying passengers and this is very common among big trucks as they have adopted it as a method of loading, which is very dangerous,” Ikaba said.
“We advise that henceforth, where you need to load them, they should be separated.
“It is only just one person that is allowed to take care of the animals while they are being transported from one place to the other.
“The move we are making in this regard is to begin to organise mobile courts where any culprit will be made to face a magistrate and explain why he has to contravene the laws of the land.
“This is very serious and we are going to swing into action any moment from now as we are liaising with the courts and we have the magistrate already on ground to take our cases.”
