Peace Mass Transit crash – Six dies, 11others injured

The FRSC on Sunday confirmed the deaths of six persons as Peace Mass Transit crash along the onueke axis of the Afikpo-Abakaliki road in Ebonyi State.
This was disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria by the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Igwe Nnabuife.
He told NAN in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, that 17 people were involved in the accident.
Nnabuife also said, 6 persons died and 11 were seriously injured.
According to him, three vehicles were involved in the accident: two articulated vehicles and a popular commercial transit company, Peace Mass Transit, all committed speeding violation.
“It happened around 11:50 am at Onuwedu, Onueke axis, Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi.
“This is a multiple crash, and it was caused by wrong overtaking.
“The dead have been taken to the mortuary at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while those injured are receiving treatment.
“We advise drivers to always be patient while driving. Always obey the traffic rules and regulations. Avoid dangerous driving and overspeeding to save lives,” Nnabuife stated.
One is prompted to inquire about the type of driver training that Peace Mass Transit drivers receive, as well as the frequency of such training.
In light of this unfortunate accident, it is crucial to consider the mental health/state of these drivers, as they are entrusted with the lives of passengers who rely on them to safely transport them to their intended destinations.
Perhaps it is prudent to start asking pertinent questions and seeking evidence of the welfare packages provided by transport companies to their drivers.
