Road crash claims 4 lives in Delta

Four people were reported dead in a fatal accident involving a truck, an 18 seater bus and two motorcycles on Thursday.

Many people were injured from different angles in the accident that occurred on Benin-Onitsha highway near Agbor town of Ika South LGA.

The incident took place on Thursday at around 3pm, involving a heavy vehicle, an 18 seater passenger bus and two motorcycles.

It was learned that some of the victims who were treated at Agbor Central Hospital were in critical condition.

The deceased were taken to Agbor Central Hospital morgue. Sources say the truck loaded with merchandise lost control while descending into the Orogordo River.

An eyewitness said: “While the driver was trying to control the vehicle, the truck crashed into a loading bus, whose driver was looking for passengers.

Aside the bus, the truck also crushed two motorcycles just as the operator of one of the motorcycles was crushed beyond recognition”.

Some sympathizers accused members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) of illegally parking on roads in search of passengers.

An official from the Federal Road Safety Corps Delta State Sector Command confirmed the incident.

It was stated that at least 4 people were confirmed dead at the spot.
