The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) identified the deceased as Claudia Jaczyk, a resident of the Newtownabbey area.
The collision occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. when Ms Jaczyk’s black Citroën C1 collided with a Translink airport bus service operating on the busy route to Belfast International Airport.
According to official PSNI updates, officers responded alongside paramedics and firefighters after the two-vehicle collision was reported on Ballyrobin Road.
A key arterial road linking Templepatrick with Belfast and the airport area.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported, but Ms Jaczyk was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver, a man in his 60s, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The bus sustained significant damage, and both vehicles were left heavily damaged following the crash.
In the aftermath of the collision, Ballyrobin Road was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked to clear debris and secure the scene.
Traffic diversions were in place for motorists, particularly those heading to Belfast International Airport, and authorities issued warnings to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes. The road has since reopened to traffic as ongoing enquiries continue.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage that could assist with the investigation to contact the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 341 of 14/02/26.
Collisions involving large passenger transport vehicles and smaller cars remain a serious road safety concern due to the imbalance in vehicle size, mass, and impact forces.
Incidents on busy roads near key travel hubs such as international airports can have profound consequences, particularly during peak commute hours. Road safety groups and police emphasise the importance of:
- Maintaining safe speeds and distance between vehicles
- Heightened awareness near intersections and bus stops
- Avoiding distracted driving
- Using seat belts at all times
These measures can help reduce the risk of collisions involving buses, shuttles, and private vehicles.
