Driver Charged in High-Profile Lagos-Ibadan Crash Involving Heavyweight Boxer

In a separate but related development, police in Ogun State have charged the driver involved in a fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that claimed the lives of two close associates of British boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, involved a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and three others.
The vehicle collided with a stationary truck near Danco, killing his personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami. Joshua and the driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, survived with minor injuries.
Kayode has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous and reckless driving, causing death by dangerous driving, and driving without a valid licence.
He was granted bail set at ₦5 million and remains in custody pending fulfillment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu extended official condolences to the families of the victims and described the crash as a “tragic accident,” while authorities continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
