The accident occurred around the NASFAT junction, a notorious black spot on Nigeria’s busiest highway, when a Mazda commercial bus collided with a Volvo truck.
Eyewitnesses told traffic officials that the truck was attempting a U-turn when the bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into it.
Traffic and rescue teams from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, police, and the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) responded to the scene.
The injured were taken to state hospitals for medical attention, while the deceased were taken to morgues in Abeokuta and Shagamu.
The crash added to the already high number of road fatalities recorded across Nigeria during the festive New Year period, highlighting persistent safety and enforcement gaps on the Lagos-Ibadan route
