No fewer than 60 people were burnt to death in a horrific auto crash at Oko-Olowo, Ilorin-Jebba expressway in Ilorin, Kwara State on Friday morning.

The fatal accident occurred when a fertilizer-laden trailer collided with a petrol tanker while overtaking, resulting in a devastating inferno that engulfed both vehicles.

Eyewitnesses reported that victims were burnt beyond recognition, with skulls and other body parts seen trapped inside the burning vehicles. The fire raged for over two hours, causing heavy traffic on the busy highway.

Some passengers managed to escape by jumping off the vehicles, but many sustained broken limbs and severe injuries. A father was seen throwing his child out of the burning vehicle before jumping to safety.

Residents of the area have called on the government to construct an overhead bridge to curb frequent accidents on the expressway.

Rescue operations were carried out by the Kwara State Fire Service, with the evacuation of bodies completed by 10:30 am.
