A tragic and deeply regrettable incident transpired on the evening of Friday along the Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra State, resulting in the untimely death of a female pedestrian.
The State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed this distressing occurrence.

It was revealed that the driver responsible for the hit-and-run callously fled the scene immediately following the collision.
The prevailing belief is that the tragic incident was a direct consequence of the driver’s reckless and excessive speeding.
The vehicular collision involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus, the driver of which remains unidentified, purportedly en route to Upper Iweke, Onitsha.
Notably, the vehicle in question was conspicuously devoid of any registration plates.
The impact of the collision upon the female pedestrian was described as devastating, as the vehicle struck her with considerable force before hastily departing from the scene.
In light of this distressing event, it is imperative for all road users to exercise utmost caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents.
The FRSC urges the public to report any relevant information that may assist in identifying and bringing the perpetrator of this heinous act to justice.
“According to an eyewitness, the driver of the speeding vehicle rammed into a female adult pedestrian and zoomed off,” Irelewuyi recounted. “The FRSC rescue team arrived promptly at the scene and transported the victim to Toronto Mortuary, where she was sadly confirmed dead by a doctor.”
In the aftermath of the unfortunate incident, Commander Irelewuyi has issued a stern cautionary statement directed towards motorists.
Underlining the inherent risks associated with speeding, especially heightened during the rainy season when the state of the roads can pose significant hazards to drivers and pedestrians alike.
It is imperative, as stressed by the Commander, that drivers strictly adhere to the prescribed speed limits in order to avert such lamentable occurrences in the future.
By following these regulations diligently, individuals can contribute to the prevention of avoidable tragedies on the roads.
Furthermore, the FRSC is actively engaged in an ongoing investigation to identify and locate the driver accountable for the fatal hit-and-run incident.
The primary objective of this pursuit is to ensure that justice is served for the deceased victim and her bereaved family, as well as to uphold the principles of accountability and responsibility on the roads.
