On Saturday at approximately 8:55 am, a series of collisions occurred near the Iju bridge along the Ota-Idiroko road, resulting in injuries to 17 individuals, while 15 others emerged unscathed from the crash.

The collision, which transpired at the aforementioned location, involved three distinct vehicles and a tricycle.

The vehicles implicated in the accident include a Mazda bus bearing the license plate AAA 729 YC, a Toyota Hiace bus identified by the license plate LND 85 YA, a Sino truck lacking a visible registration number, and a Bajaj tricycle with the license plate TTN 58 ND.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, officially communicated this information in a statement disseminated to the press on the day of the crash.

Okpe attributed the cause of the crash to the excessive speed exhibited by the driver of the Sino truck while navigating the bend near the Iju bridge, leading to a loss of control and subsequent collision with another vehicle, thereby initiating a chain of multiple crashes.

The injured parties were promptly transported to the General Hospital in Ota to receive necessary medical attention.

It is imperative for all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to prescribed speed limits to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.

The statement partly reads, “FRSC Ota carried out rescue operation at Iju bridge at about 0855hrs on Ota- Idiroko route.

“The crash occurred today 11 May 2024 involving 32 people which comprised 12 male adults and 20 female adults.

“A total of 04 vehicles were involved with registration numbers AAA 729 YC Mazda, LND 85 YA Toyota Hiace, TTN 58 ND BAJAJ and the fourth vehicle has no number plate on it a SINO truck

“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Sino truck which tried to negotiate the bend at Iju bridge on a high-speed loss control and crashed on the vehicles and then followed others.

However, the road safety agency has recommended that drivers avoid speeding and take into account the safety of other road users in order to decrease the frequency of accidents and fatalities on our roads.

Last month, a crash at the Ogere Remo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to five other passengers.
