In Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, a tragic incident unfolded resulting in the destruction of five vehicles, one of which was a truck, and the lost of human life.

Reports indicate that a gas tanker explosion sparked a fire outbreak, leading to this unfortunate outcome.

Eyewitnesses present at the scene have recounted that the inferno not only engulfed the vehicles but also caused significant damage to nearby shops and residences in the bustling Ita Osin area of the city.

Initial claims suggested that the blaze had claimed the lives of four individuals.

However, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed that the sole fatality of the explosion was the motor boy who was trapped within the engulfed truck.

Mrs. Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the FRSC’s Ogun State Sector Command, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

She has attributed the cause of the crash to brake failure, detailing that the vehicle collided with a road barricade before erupting into flames.

This resulted in the destruction of multiple vehicles and establishments in the vicinity, exacerbating the impact of the tragedy.

In response to the emergency, the fire service personnel were promptly summoned to the location.

Furthermore, to ensure the safety of all individuals involved, the area was cordoned off to prevent any potential secondary accidents.

The deceased victim was respectfully transported to the morgue at the State General Hospital in Abeokuta, while those who sustained injuries were swiftly evacuated by their respective families.

In light of this distressing event, it is imperative for all members of the community to exercise caution and vigilance on the roads to prevent such calamities from reoccurring.

Let us collectively prioritize safety and adherence to traffic regulations to avert further tragedies of this nature.

In addition to the dedicated fire fighters, personnel from various agencies were present at the site of the incident.

Among them were operatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Police.
