Abuja-Kaduna highway crash: 10 dead while 48 sustained injuries

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that a tragic crash occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, resulting in the loss of lives.
Specifically, a DAF trailer was involved in a solitary traffic accident, leading to the unfortunate demise of 10 passengers.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, conveyed that the occurrence, which transpired on Monday, was attributed to factors such as excessive speed, overloading, and driver fatigue.
Regrettably, the driver’s inability to maintain control of the vehicle caused it to veer off the road and ran into a ditch around 10:30 a.m., carrying a total of 172 male passengers.
Tragically, 10 individuals succumbed to their injuries, while 48 others sustained varying degrees of harm.
In response to the distressing situation, the FRSC promptly mobilized a rescue team to transport the victims to St. Anthony and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua hospitals in Kaduna for urgent medical attention.
“Efforts are ongoing by FRSC Operatives to follow up on the injured victims in the hospitals to ensure they receive necessary medical attention,” he added
Agwu relayed the message from the Corps Marshal, Mr. Dauda Ali-Biu, who encouraged all sector commanders to enhance enforcement and promotion efforts nationwide to tackle speeding, overloading, and reckless driving.
Ali-Biu emphasized the need for cautioning trailer drivers about carrying both goods and passengers on their vehicles.
He instructed the commanders to start effective patrol operations with mobile courts along significant routes without delay.
