The crash occurred around the Bolorunduro area of Ondo State on October 31, 2025. The tipper truck, reportedly travelling at high speed, collided with the commercial vehicle in the early morning hours. The impact caused multiple casualties and immediate panic among commuters and nearby residents.
Emergency responders from Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and local police arrived at the scene to provide first aid, clear traffic and begin investigations.
The State Government’s emergency team confirmed the collision involved heavy vehicles and was investigating speed, vehicle condition and driver fatigue as possible contributing factors.
This accident underscores the persistent danger posed by heavy-duty vehicles on major corridors — especially when commercial vehicles carrying traders and passengers are brought into the mix. Key risk factors to pay attention to:
- Speeding tipper trucks
- Mixed traffic (commercial & passenger vehicles)
- Early-morning travel when visibility or alertness may be compromised
- Delay in rescue/clearance operations that can add to casualties
Travelers on the Akure–Owo route are advised to remain extra vigilant, avoid overtaking risky vehicles, and report tipper-trucks or heavy vehicles exhibiting erratic styles or poor maintenance.
