Seven Dead, Five Injured in Madalla Junction Crash: Abuja-Kaduna Highway Closure

Tragedy struck the Madalla Junction yesterday afternoon when a fatal road accident claimed the lives of seven people and left five others injured. The collision involved a large commercial trailer and a private vehicle, authorities confirmed.

The incident happened at approximately 3:45 pm on the busy Abuja-Kaduna highway as the trailer, reportedly coming from the Kaduna axis, tried to maneuver around a curve near the Madalla junction. Witnesses say the trailer lost control, veered off its lane, and smashed into the private vehicle with great force.
Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and local rescue teams, rushed to the scene. Four of the injured were in critical condition and were immediately transported to the General Hospital, Suleja, while the remaining victim was treated for less severe injuries on site.
Families of the deceased have begun to identify their loved ones at the mortuary, while the FRSC has launched an investigation into possible causes. Early indications suggest overspeeding and possible brake failure as contributing factors, though these have yet to be confirmed by forensic examination.
Traffic was gridlocked for hours after the crash, with both directions of the highway blocked until heavy-duty towing and rescue equipment could clear the wreckage. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes, including Zuba Road and the Gwagwalada bypass, until the highway was fully reopened.
In a brief statement, the FRSC Sector Commander for the Federal Capital Territory urged drivers to maintain safe speeds and ensure vehicle maintenance, especially with heavy loads, as prevention better saves lives than post-accident rescue.
