The crash occurred at Samawa Village, located in Garun-Malam Local Government, approximately 30 km from Kano. Responding officials report that a mechanical fault specifically, the detachment of the trailer cab from its body, caused the driver to lose control, resulting in a tragic collision.

Vehicle Involved: DAF Trailer CF95 (Registration: KMC 931 ZE), carrying both passengers and goods (Ajinomoto spices).

Casualties: 12 confirmed dead, 5 injured, and 2 unhurt survivors.

Response: The Kano State FRSC Sector Commander, CC MB Bature, visited the crash scene, offering condolences and urging motorists to follow safety regulations strictly.

Aftermath: Victims were taken to Nassarawa Hospital’s mortuary; the injured were evacuated to Kura General Hospital.

This tragic incident is not isolated. It highlights recurring mechanical failures among heavy-duty vehicles on Nigerian roads. In Kano State alone, multiple similar accidents have occurred, often resulting from poor maintenance and lack of pre-trip safety checks.

RoadKing.ng’s Safety Analysis

  1. Pre-Departure Checks are Non-Negotiable: Truck drivers must ensure their vehicle’s cab hitch and other critical components are secure before setting off.
  2. Regulate Mixed-Use Trailers Strictly: Highly dangerous when combined with passenger transport.
  3. Enforce Overload & Maintenance Laws: Authority agencies need stronger inspection regimes for commercial trucks.
  4. Safety Education for Heavy-Duty Drivers: Nationwide refresher training can drastically reduce mechanical fault-related crashes.
