The incident occurred around 8:00 pm near Jin-Jofes Filling Station, Iwo Road, reportedly caused by brake failure as the driver attempted to negotiate a bend.

Eyewitness Ajadi Oyekunle told PUNCH Metro that the accident could have ended in tragedy but for the swift intervention of the Oyo State Fire Service, which prevented the tanker from exploding.

Another witness, Bisola Ogungbade, confirmed that both the driver and motor boy were rescued. She added that the motor boy suffered a minor shoulder injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, said the distress call was received at 8:07 pm from a caller identified as Adisa Kazeem.

A team led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina was deployed to the scene, where they found a DAF trailer tanker with registration number LAGOS: T17 657 LA lying in a roadside gutter, spilling its contents.

Firefighters immediately blanketed the spilled diesel with chemical foam compound to neutralise its flammability. Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force (Akobo Division) and the Amotekun Corps provided backup during the operation.

The situation was brought under control, and normal traffic flow was restored. Fire service personnel returned to base at 4:12 am on Thursday.
