A fatal road accident involving a coaster bus carrying members of the Knights of the Catholic Church has claimed the life of one person and left 29 others injured.

The tragic incident occurred at the UNIZIK Temporary Site Junction in Awka, Anambra State, after the bus lost control and crashed.

The vehicle, which belonged to the Cross River State College of Nursing, Ogoja, was transporting the Knights of the Catholic Church from Ogoja, Cross River State, to Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State for the burial of their late member, Dr. Ezigbo Sunny. However, their journey took a tragic turn when the 70-year-old Elliot Ushie Agana lost his life in the crash.

Survivors recounted the terrifying experience, stating that the bus had brake issues even before departing from Ogoja. Pastor Christian Ikere, one of the survivors, revealed that passengers repeatedly pleaded with the driver to address the fault, but their warnings were ignored.

Mr. Chidiebere Chukwu, a passenger in another bus traveling with the convoy, explained that one of the three coaster buses began losing control, forcing passengers to wave frantically at other vehicles in an attempt to prevent a crash. Unfortunately, the bus rammed into an inter-city commercial vehicle loading passengers at UNIZIK junction, leading to the tragic accident.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the 29 injured victims were rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, for urgent medical care. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue.
