2025 Toyota Camry: Test Driving

The 2025 Toyota Camry is currently under consideration for prestigious accolades, specifically the North American Car of the Year and the World Car of the Year.
As a completely new model for the year 2025, the Toyota Camry has undergone significant enhancements, including a contemporary exterior design, a reimagined interior that features advanced technological upgrades, and the incorporation of a hybrid drivetrain as standard across all trim levels.

As a juror for both awards, I recently undertook a road test of the new Camry to reassess its attributes and performance.
This particular test drive follows my initial encounter with the 2025 Camry during the previous summer, at which time I had already discerned that the Camry presents a compelling amalgamation of enjoyment and practicality.
In recent years, Toyota has dedicated significant efforts to enhancing the driving dynamics of its vehicle lineup.
This commitment is particularly evident in the latest iterations of several models, including the Toyota Prius, Toyota Supra, Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Sienna, all of which I have had the opportunity to experience firsthand.
The most recent version of the Toyota Camry exemplifies this investment in the midsize sedan segment, even amidst the prevailing trend of consumer preference for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in the contemporary automotive market.
It is worth noting that for individuals who do not favor SUVs, this choice is commendable. A relatively small demographic genuinely requires the capabilities offered by SUVs; conversely, many consumers find themselves incurring excessive costs associated with the purchase, maintenance, fuel consumption, and insurance of these vehicles.
In many cases, a sedan such as the Camry would adequately fulfill their transportation needs.
Furthermore, for those who can appreciate the advantages of improved ride quality, superior driving dynamics, and enhanced fuel efficiency that a sedan provides in comparison to an SUV, the latest iteration of the Camry fully capitalizes on these attributes.
This model stands as a testament to Toyota’s commitment to delivering a refined driving experience while addressing the practical needs of its customers.
The development of a remarkably spacious midsize family sedan, capable of providing an impressive 100 cubic feet of passenger space alongside 15 cubic feet of trunk capacity.
While achieving approximately 50 miles per gallon, is a feat that many consumers, as well as a considerable number of automotive engineers, would have deemed improbable just a few years prior.
However, the Toyota Camry distinguishes itself particularly in its integration of numerous contemporary fuel efficiency and hybrid technologies.
These advancements include features such as electric-assist power steering, a continuously variable transmission, and regenerative braking systems, all of which contribute to an enhanced driving experience when compared to previous iterations of the Camry.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it is noteworthy that every 2025 model of the Camry is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is paired with a 100 kW electric motor.
This hybrid powertrain is capable of delivering a peak output of 225 horsepower for the front-wheel-drive variants, while the all-wheel-drive models achieve a slightly higher output of 232 horsepower.
The all-wheel-drive configuration incorporates an additional motor that is connected to the rear axle, which activates the rear wheels in response to detected slippage at the front wheels.
This sophisticated system not only enhances traction but also contributes to the overall performance and safety of the vehicle.
The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is responsible for transmitting power to the wheels of the vehicle.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Toyota Camry exhibits a range of mixed miles per gallon (MPG) ratings, with the lower end being 44 MPG for the XSE trim equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD) and the upper end reaching 51 MPG for the LE trim featuring front-wheel drive (FWD).
It is important to note that the Camry does not position itself as a sports car, nor does it aspire to fulfill that role.
However, the 2025 model year has been recognized as the most proficient driving iteration of the Camry to date.
This assertion is particularly noteworthy when one considers not only the sedan’s commendable MPG figures but also the enhancements made in terms of safety and technological features.
The base LE trim, which is priced at $29,535, comes equipped with a standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster and an 8-inch central touchscreen.
These displays can be upgraded to larger 12.3-inch versions in both instances, providing an enhanced visual experience.
Furthermore, the inclusion of various standard features such as wireless phone charging, wireless compatibility with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, as well as dual-zone climate control, underscores the vehicle’s commitment to providing a premium experience.
Consequently, it is possible to achieve an impressive fuel efficiency of 51 MPG while also enjoying a multitude of high-end features, all for a price point of approximately $30,000.
