Hummer bus collide with mini pick-up in Kano

The FRSC Sector Commander expressed deep regret regarding the unfortunate accident that claimed the lives of 11 passengers in Kano.

In a press release disseminated by the spokesperson of the Kano State FRSC Sector Commander, Abdullahi Labaran, on a Saturday in Kano, Ibrahim Sallau-Abdullahi, the Sector Commander, brought to light the distressing details of the event.
The distressing occurrence involved two vehicles, namely a Toyota Hummer bus bearing the registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini pick-up identified by the registration number KTG 501 YG.
“We received a call at about 03:45 p.m. on April 19, 2024. On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims at 03:55 p.m” – Abdullahi.
According to the Sector Commander, the collision was a direct consequence of excessive speed and a subsequent loss of control, culminating in a catastrophic head-on impact that instantaneously engulfed both vehicles in flames.
“The accident involved a total of 28 passengers in the two vehicles, out of which 11 lost their lives while 16 others sustained serious injuries, and one was rescued unhurt.
“The injured were taken to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical treatment, while the corpses were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony,” Abdullahi said.
The Commander of the Sector, expressing deep regret over the unfortunate incident that took place, underscored the critical significance of adhering to road safety protocols and regulations.
He articulated the necessity for all drivers to exercise utmost caution and responsibility while on the road, emphasizing the detrimental consequences of disregarding traffic laws.
Furthermore, he earnestly implored drivers to abstain from engaging in any form of traffic violations, including but not limited to exceeding speed limits and overloading vehicles with passengers, animals, or cargo.
Such infractions not only endanger the lives of those on the road but also contribute to the overall deterioration of traffic safety standards.
In addition to these admonitions, Abdullahi provided valuable counsel specifically directed towards commercial drivers.
He recommended the installation of speed limit devices on their vehicles as a proactive measure to prevent accidents stemming from breaches of speed restrictions. By taking this precautionary step, drivers can significantly reduce the likelihood of collisions and uphold the safety of all road users.
He also added that the command was committed to ensuring the safety of road users, vowing,
”We will intensify efforts to enforce traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future”.
