FRSC warns travellers on safety while traveling

As the year comes to an end, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is ramping up efforts to ensure safe travel for Nigerians.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has called on commuters to remain vigilant when boarding vehicles, especially during the busy travel season. Recent accidents in Jebba, Kwara State, and along the Owo-Ikare route highlight the dangers posed by driver negligence and recklessness.
The Corps Marshal identified driver misconduct and passengers’ failure to report suspicious behavior as key causes of these crashes. To prevent further incidents, he urged passengers to carefully assess the condition of vehicles—checking tires, brakes, and lights—and to observe drivers’ behavior before boarding.
The FRSC also emphasized the importance of passenger responsibility, encouraging commuters to stay alert, report suspicious actions, and prioritize their safety. According to the Corps Marshal, ensuring road safety requires collective effort, and passengers must play their part by speaking up and being proactive.
As part of its “Ember Months” campaign, the FRSC has intensified advocacy and awareness initiatives to reduce accidents during this high-risk travel period. With increased traffic expected, the Corps has urged both drivers and passengers to take extra precautions.
While the FRSC continues implementing measures to enhance road safety, the Corps Marshal stressed that the cooperation of road users is vital. By working together, drivers and passengers can help prevent avoidable crashes and make the roads safer for everyone.
