FG Re-awards N124.4 Billion Kano–Maiduguri Road Contract

The Federal Government has officially terminated the initial contract for Section 1 of the Kano–Maiduguri Road project and re-awarded the project to a new contractor, Triacter Construction Company.
The newly signed agreement outlines a three-year timeline for the completion of the critical road infrastructure.
This significant development was announced by Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South in the National Assembly. The senator shared the update on his Facebook page following his recent meeting with the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, in Abuja.
Senator Sumaila expressed great satisfaction with the Federal Government’s swift intervention, noting that Section 1 of the Kano–Maiduguri Road had become notorious for its hazardous condition.
According to him, the stretch had evolved into a “death trap,” contributing to frequent road accidents, tragic loss of lives, and chronic traffic gridlock.
He revealed that his motion on the matter, presented before the Senate on May 7, 2024, had brought the road’s deplorable state to the attention of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
As a result, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration acted promptly to revoke the underperforming contract and assign the project to a more capable firm.
The new contract is valued at a staggering ₦124.4 billion and represents a renewed commitment to road infrastructure and public safety in the region.
The re-award is expected to bring hope and relief to thousands of commuters and residents who rely on the road daily.
