Police arrest the leader of car theft gang in River State

In a meticulously orchestrated operation targeting vehicle theft and robbery, a total of approximately 26 individuals were successfully apprehended, as reported by Rivers State Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcome, Commissioner Disu announced the capture of Chidozie Onyekwe, the alleged mastermind behind illicit auto theft activities in Rivers State.
Notably, Commissioner Disu underscored Onyekwe’s strategic leadership in training his collaborators within the criminal enterprise, thereby emphasizing his influential role within the organisation.
Furthermore, Commissioner Disu elaborated on Onyekwe’s significant involvement in providing detailed instructions to his associates, ensuring their adeptness in carrying out car theft operations with meticulous precision and efficiency.
It was emphasized that the nexus between Onyekwe and the series of vehicle thefts committed by the detained individuals was unequivocally established.
Commissioner Disu further highlighted the pervasive influence wielded by Onyekwe over all members of the apprehended group, thereby solidifying his dominance within the criminal network dedicated to vehicle theft in Rivers State.
He said during a live coverage by Channels TV:
“Today, I’m very happy to inform you that about 26 suspects specialized in stealing vehicles and robbing them have been arrested. Our greatest joy is the arrest of Chidozie Onyekwe, he’s the leader of those who steal cars in Rivers state.
He trains his men well in this criminal act, he’s linked to all the suspects you see here who have been arrested. For this same offense of stealing cars, he ensured that his men are well trained before they come and perpetrate their crimes here.”
According to the Police, the arrest was made after receiving multiple reports of stolen cars, some of which were taken at gunpoint in and around Port Harcourt.
The Police also mentioned that the arrest included the native doctors who provided spiritual assistance to the criminals before they embarked on their car theft operations.
