LAMATA has recently announced that the Lagos Blue Line has successfully recorded a remarkable milestone in passenger traffic.
Within a mere five months of operations, this transportation system has managed to serve an impressive 500,000 passengers.
This information was shared by Osa Konyeha, the technical adviser of Corporate Investment Planning at LAMATA, during a Sustainable Urban Transport summit held in Lagos, organized by Sweden.
The Lagos Blue Line is currently in its initial phase, covering the distance from Marina to Mile 2.
This stretch includes five strategically located stations, namely Marina, National Theatre Iganmu, Orile, Alaba, and Mile 2.
The primary objective of this transportation system is to alleviate the notorious traffic gridlocks that plague the state.
Initially, the Blue Line was projected to carry up to 500,000 passengers per year. However, it has already achieved this target within a mere five months of operation.
This remarkable accomplishment clearly demonstrates the significance and potential of this rail project.
The success of the Lagos Blue Line is a testament to the effectiveness and efficiency of this transportation system.
It not only provides a reliable means of commuting for the residents of Lagos but also contributes to the overall improvement of urban transport in the city.
With its strategic stations and commitment to sustainability, the Blue Line is poised to make a lasting impact on the transportation landscape of Lagos.
Konyeha said that, the State is currently in the process of completing the 37km Red Line, which will run from Agbado in Ogun State to Marina in Lagos.
The first phase of the project will span from Oyinbo to Agbado and is expected to accommodate approximately 800,000 passengers annually.
It is anticipated that the Red Line will commence operations in the first quarter of this year.
Furthermore, Konyeha had mentioned that Lagos is actively working on the development of Green and Purple rail lines.
The detailed feasibility study for these projects has already been completed.
