Abuja: seat of power experience massive fuel scarcity

Published

Fuel scarcity has impacted the Nigerian capital, Abuja, resulting in extended queues at fuel stations across various parts of the city.

This situation has consequently led to traffic congestion in specific areas.

Observations reveal that some filling stations have closed their operations, while others are experiencing lengthy queues of vehicles awaiting fuel purchase.

For instance, at the Fynefield filling station in Apo Resettlement, the gates were closed, preventing the entry of new vehicles.

Notably, retail outlets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited tend to have prolonged queues due to their competitive pricing compared to other fuel stations.

The NNPC station in particular is currently facing an exacerbating queue, contributing to traffic disruptions in the Central Business District Area.

Mr. Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL spokesperson said; “There is no scarcity; we have abundant products, and there is no cause for alarm.”

Several filling stations across different parts of the city are offering fuel within the price range of N617 to N680.

Unfortunately, black marketeers have exploited the circumstances by selling fuel at inflated prices to individuals in urgent need of purchasing it.

The reason behind the fuel shortage remains unknown at this time.
