The accident occurred on the Ahmedabad–Indore National Highway during the early hours of Wednesday, raising fresh concerns about road safety on busy inter-state transport routes.

According to initial reports from local authorities, the passenger bus was traveling from Morbi in Gujarat to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh when the accident occurred near Rabdal village, close to Dahod town.

Investigators believe the crash was triggered when one of the bus tyres suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle while traveling at speed. The bus then swerved off the elevated highway and slid down a slope on the roadside.

The section of the highway where the accident occurred passes through hilly terrain, which likely worsened the situation as the vehicle moved down the incline before coming to a halt.

Immediately after the crash, local residents and passing motorists rushed to the scene to assist trapped passengers. They helped pull victims out of the damaged bus and alerted emergency services.

Rescue teams from the local police department and the Dahod Fire Brigade arrived shortly afterward and coordinated emergency response efforts. Ambulance teams transported the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that most of the victims sustained minor injuries, including cuts, bruises, and shock.

Hospital officials reported that many of the injured passengers received first aid and basic treatment before being discharged, while a few remained under observation for further medical checks.

Fortunately, no deaths were reported in the incident.

Following the rescue operation, authorities deployed heavy equipment to recover the bus. A crane was later used to lift the vehicle back onto the road before it was towed away from the accident scene.

Police have launched an investigation to determine whether additional factors such as vehicle maintenance, speed, or driver fatigue contributed to the crash.

Highway accidents involving buses remain a recurring safety challenge in India due to factors such as:

  • tyre failures,
  • speeding on long-distance routes,
  • driver fatigue during overnight journeys,
  • and difficult terrain along certain highway corridors.

Safety experts say incidents like the Dahod crash highlight the importance of routine vehicle inspection and strict maintenance checks, particularly for buses carrying dozens of passengers across long inter-state routes.
