As July rainfall continues, Lagos motorists and residents are forcing the spotlight back onto neglected roads, especially in high-traffic areas: Ajah, Ikorodu, Egbeda, Isolo, Ilasa, Oshodi, Mushin, and Ikeja. These roads are further deteriorating, disrupting daily commutes and causing vehicle damage.

Lagos Motorists Condemn Deplorable Roads

A bus operator on CMS–Ajah, lamented how:

“poor maintenance has led to frequent vehicle breakdowns and enlarged potholes,” adding that government repairs only surface during elections . Segun Lawal said.

Real Complaints from the Road

Drainage failures cause water pooling, hiding dangerously deep craters that swallow car tires . Some sections of Ajah and Ikorodu roads feature huge washed‑out pits forcing drivers into risky overtakes . In Mushin and Egbeda, road surfaces crumble, leading to traffic stalls and heightened crash potential .

Poor roads aren’t just an inconvenience, they damage vehicles, increase repair costs, and eat into commuter time and income.

Poor road conditions also contribute to:

  • Higher transportation fares due to vehicle wear and longer travel times.
  • Economic slowdown, as traders and service providers see delays .

Lagos Residents has this to say;

“Incidents during election repair drives are fast and unreliable,”

“Why pay NURTW levies when roads stay broken?”

frustrated commuters at Egbeda & Mushin roundabouts made their point.

RoadKing’s On‑Site Recommendations

1. Fix drainage systems, first to prevent potholes from reflooding and deepening.

2. Employ durable materials, not quick ‘palliative’ fills that degrade within weeks.

3. Launch a government and NURTW oversight taskforce to ensure road levy contributions reach repairs.

4. Install warning signs and cones at hazard zones to prevent surprise breakdowns.

5. Empower local reporting

6. Create a platform for residents to flag damaged roads instantly.
