Explosion rocks the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area, on Monday night, causing a raging inferno that continues to burn.

The blast has significantly impacted a section of the crucial oil export pipeline, which transports crude oil to the Bonny Terminal, a key hub for Nigeria’s petroleum exports.

According to reports gathered by Naija News on Tuesday morning, the affected section of the pipeline remains engulfed in flames. However, the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.

Authorities and industry experts are currently investigating the incident to ascertain whether it was due to technical failures, sabotage, or criminal activities.

Sources cited by Vanguard suggest that security agencies are particularly focused on the possibility of deliberate human interference.

Recent threats from militant groups targeting oil facilities have raised concerns, especially as tensions mount over the Federal Government’s decision to withhold Rivers State’s allocation amid the region’s political crisis. These threats have fueled speculations that the explosion may have been an act of sabotage.

The Trans-Niger Pipeline is a critical infrastructure in Nigeria’s oil production network, and any disruption could have significant economic implications.

Local communities have also expressed fear over the potential environmental damage, as previous incidents of pipeline explosions have led to oil spills, pollution, and destruction of farmlands and water sources.

As investigations continue, authorities have urged residents to remain calm while efforts are being made to contain the raging fire and prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, security agencies have been placed on high alert to safeguard other key oil installations in the region.
