Calabar reinstate the ban of bikes in the city center

The ban of bikes along major highways and certain roads in the Calabar metropolis has been reinstated by the Cross River State Government.

This decision was communicated through a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, who quoted the State Security Adviser, Major General O. U. Obono (Rtd).

It is advised that motorcycle riders in Calabar adhere to the designated routes to avoid any legal consequences.

This directive was initially emphasized by the Government in June 2023, aiming to regulate the use of commercial motorcycles in the urban areas.

The State Security Adviser stated the reminder has turn out to be vital given the flagrant disobedience to the regulation.

He also note that criminals have nowadays resorted to the use of bikes to rob harmless citizens.

Major General Obono entreated officers who ride on bikes for critical responsibilities to always appear on their uniforms to keep away from being embarrassed while on duty.

He directed all involved to obey the regulations guiding bike operations in Calabar as defaulters will be apprehended and their bikes impounded.

He warned that the exercise wherein defaulters throng his workplace to solicit for the discharge of seized bikes shall not be tolerated below any guise.
