According to police authorities, the fatal accident occurred on a busy stretch of the roadway connecting Nabha and Amloh in Patiala, a region known for heavy commercial and commuter traffic.
Initial reports from investigators indicate that the collision involved three vehicles, a tipper truck, a passenger bus, and a motorcycle.
Authorities said the motorcycle was traveling along the roadway when it became entangled in a chain collision involving the larger vehicles.
The exact sequence of events remains under investigation, but witnesses reported that the impact occurred suddenly, leaving the motorcycle riders severely injured.
The crash caused a brief traffic disruption along the road as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Police and rescue teams quickly secured the area to prevent secondary accidents and began recovery operations.
Officials confirmed that two individuals riding the motorcycle died from severe injuries sustained during the crash.
Emergency responders transported the victims to a nearby hospital in Patiala, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, passengers traveling in the bus sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a local medical facility.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased pending notification of their families.
Local police have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Officers are examining several possible factors that may have contributed to the crash, including:
- overspeeding,
- unsafe overtaking,
- driver distraction,
- and road congestion.
Investigators are also assessing whether mechanical failure or road conditions played any role in the incident.
Vehicles involved in the crash have been removed from the scene to allow traffic flow to resume.
Growing Concern Over Road Accidents in India
India continues to record some of the highest road traffic fatality figures globally.
Data released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways indicates that more than 150,000 people die annually in road accidents across the country, with motorcycles accounting for a large proportion of these fatalities.
Experts say multi-vehicle collisions often occur on busy regional roads where different categories of vehicles, heavy trucks, buses, and motorcycles, share limited roadway space.
Common causes include speeding, driver fatigue, and inadequate road discipline.
Authorities have urged motorists using the Nabha–Amloh corridor to exercise caution, particularly during peak traffic periods when heavy vehicles and passenger transport buses frequently operate along the route.
Road safety officials recommend that drivers:
- maintain safe following distances,
- avoid risky overtaking maneuvers,
- reduce speed in mixed-traffic environments,
- and remain alert to motorcycles and smaller vehicles sharing the road.
