In various parts of Lagos and Ogun states, a significant number of residents and motorists found themselves in a state of distress on Sunday due to the prolonged and heavy rainfall.

The consequences of this weather event were particularly evident on major roads, which became inundated with floodwaters.

Our diligent correspondents, who conducted thorough investigations in the Agege, Akowonjo, and Egbeda areas of Lagos, as well as the Mayegun junction area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Akute, Lotto, Pakuro, Ijere, and other regions in Ogun State, have reported that motorists and residents alike were left stranded for an extended period of time as a direct result of the relentless downpour.

Specifically, our correspondents have observed that the Mobil area in the Agege region of Lagos State was entirely submerged by water, rendering it utterly impassable for drivers who were attempting to reach their intended destinations.

Consequently, these individuals were compelled to remain stationary until the floodwaters receded, causing significant delays and inconvenience.

Furthermore, commuters and motorists faced a daunting challenge while traversing the Egbeda-Ikotun road, as the floodwaters had overwhelmed the Baba Oba and Car Wash sections of the road.

This unfortunate circumstance led to a considerable buildup of traffic in the area, as vehicles were forced to navigate through the submerged portion of the road at a reduced speed.

In light of these circumstances, it is evident that the inclement weather conditions have had a profound impact on the daily lives of the affected individuals.

The resulting inconveniences and delays have undoubtedly caused frustration and disruption to their routines.

The gradual buildup of traffic congestion was observed as the vehicles, at a certain juncture, made a conscious effort to maintain a single lane in order to prevent any unfortunate incidents of falling into a gully.

A similar predicament was encountered in the Akowonjo area, where the road was submerged under water, resulting in a sluggish movement of vehicles.

The residents and road users, however, expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, deeming it a recurring occurrence during the rainy season.

Their sentiments were shared by Grace Ayinde, one of the commuters, who articulated, The phenomenon of flooding is a regular and predictable event in this particular vicinity.

Whenever there is rainfall, the economic activities in this area come to a grinding halt due to the infiltration of water into people’s shops.

Furthermore, potential customers are deterred from visiting this part of the locality as they are unable to access the various businesses situated here.
