Sagamu-Ijebu Ode accident claims 2 lives, 13 injured

A tragic accident just occurred at Ajede, immediately after J4, on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway this Saturday.

According to the official statement provided by Mrs. Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, two individuals lost their lives, and 13 others sustained injuries as a result of the accident.

Mrs. Okpe, in her capacity as the spokesperson, confirmed the details of the crash to members of the press in Abeokuta.

The unfortunate event transpired at approximately 12:10 pm and involved a collision between a Toyota Hiace bus bearing the registration GUE 59 ZY and a truck identified by the registration number BGT 94 LG.

Further elaborating on the circumstances surrounding the accident, Mrs. Okpe attributed the cause to excessive speeding on the part of the bus driver, resulting in a collision with a stationary truck parked along the roadside.

“Fifteen people were involved in the crash – 10 men and five women and a total of 13 people sustained injuries while two persons died,” she said.

In the aftermath of the collision, the injured individuals were promptly transported to Hope Hospital at J4 for medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully placed in the care of the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue.

In response to this tragic event, Mr. Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander, issued a cautionary advisory to all motorists, emphasizing the importance of adhering to proper parking protocols to ensure the safety of all individuals utilizing the highway.
