A serious multi-vehicle accident on one of India’s most important highways has left at least ten people injured after a trailer truck reportedly lost control and triggered a chain collision on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway in northern India.

Authorities confirmed that the crash involved four vehicles, including a trailer truck, a cargo truck, a double-decker passenger bus, and a pickup vehicle.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption and raised fresh concerns about driver fatigue and safety compliance on long-distance highways.

According to preliminary investigations by local traffic authorities, the crash occurred when the trailer driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while driving at high speed along the expressway.

Officials reported that the trailer suddenly swerved out of its lane and crossed the central divider, entering the opposite carriageway where it collided with other vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact resulted in a violent chain reaction involving:

  • A passenger double-decker bus
  • A goods-carrying cargo truck
  • A pickup vehicle
  • The trailer truck that initiated the collision

Eyewitnesses at the scene described hearing a loud crash followed by multiple vehicles colliding in quick succession.

The crash left several passengers trapped inside damaged vehicles before rescue teams arrived.

Emergency services, highway patrol officers, and local rescue teams rushed to the accident scene shortly after the collision.

Rescue operations included:

  • Removing injured victims from damaged vehicles
  • Providing first aid at the scene
  • Transporting victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment

Authorities confirmed that ten people sustained injuries, including passengers traveling in the double-decker bus and occupants of the other vehicles.

Medical officials reported that four victims suffered serious injuries, while others sustained moderate to minor trauma.

The injured were taken to medical facilities in nearby districts for further treatment and observation.

The accident temporarily blocked multiple lanes of the Agra–Lucknow Expressway, forcing traffic authorities to divert vehicles while rescue and clearance operations were carried out.

The expressway is one of the busiest and most strategically important road corridors in northern India, connecting the historic city of Agra with the state capital Lucknow.

Opened in 2016, the highway significantly reduced travel time between the two cities and serves thousands of vehicles daily, including passenger buses, cargo trucks, and private cars.

Due to its high-speed design and heavy traffic flow, accidents on the corridor can often result in large-scale collisions involving multiple vehicles.

Initial investigations suggest that driver fatigue may have been the primary factor behind the crash.

Long-distance truck drivers in India often travel for extended hours without adequate rest, increasing the risk of:

  • falling asleep at the wheel
  • delayed reaction times
  • loss of vehicle control at highway speeds

Traffic safety experts warn that fatigue-related accidents remain a significant problem across major highways in India and many other countries.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that speeding and driver fatigue are among the leading causes of serious crashes on high-speed expressways.

Safety analysts note that multi-vehicle crashes are particularly dangerous because they often occur at high speeds and involve several heavy vehicles simultaneously.

Officials continue to emphasize the importance of:

  • enforcing driver rest periods
  • improving highway patrol monitoring
  • strengthening commercial vehicle regulations
  • increasing awareness about fatigue-related driving risks

Police and highway safety officials have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and assess whether negligence or traffic violations contributed to the incident.

Investigators are expected to review:

  • driver work hours
  • vehicle condition
  • speed records
  • eyewitness statements

Authorities say further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
