According to the FRSC, the crash happened on a busy stretch of the inter-state route linking Kogi to Enugu State. Emergency responders from the Corps were deployed to the scene following a distress alert.
FRSC officials said 12 victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while two injured persons were rescued and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The wreckage was subsequently cleared to restore traffic flow and prevent secondary accidents.
While investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, the Corps said a full report would be released after preliminary findings are concluded.
The FRSC also confirmed that relevant authorities had been notified and that necessary post-crash procedures were carried out.
The Ejule–Enugu highway is a major corridor for inter-state travel and commercial transport between the North-Central and South-East regions of the country, and has witnessed several serious crashes in recent years.
The FRSC extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, including speed limits and safe driving practices, especially on highways.
