Crash on Lekki-Epe Expressway Leaves Two Injured

Two people were seriously injured this afternoon when a Toyota Corolla skidded off the rain-soaked Lekki-Epe Expressway and collided with a barrier near the Ajah under-bridge.
Eyewitnesses say the driver was “moving too fast for the wet road” and lost control after swerving to overtake a commercial bus.
The car flipped once and landed on its side. Both the driver and his female passenger were rescued by passersby before emergency responders arrived.
This Is Why We Talk About Lekki-Epe Drivers Behavior
Despite repeated warnings from traffic authorities, many Lagos drivers still:
- Overspeed in the rain
- Ignore road surface warnings
- Fail to maintain proper tyre grip or brake health
The Road Factor
The Lekki-Epe Expressway, while recently resurfaced, lacks sufficient anti-skid markings and proper rainwater drainage, especially between Sangotedo and Ajah.
According to traffic safety expert Ifeanyi O.,
“This crash is a classic case of poor judgment. Rain reduces tyre-road friction drastically — every driver should slow down by at least 30% in wet weather.”
What Drivers Must Remember
- Slow down when roads are wet, speed kills.
- Check tyres regularly, especially tread depth.
- Keep two hands on the wheel during slippery conditions.
- Use fog lights and hazard lights wisely.
